Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance cover my treatment?

In most cases it does, however it is always best to confirm this. Our office will be happy to assist in contacting your insurance company to determine your coverage. For more information please contact our office.

What if my child misses a session?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy, in which we ask for 24 hour notice if your child will be absent. However, sometimes a child is sick or there is a family obligation that requires they miss program, just call us at 1-844-417-3417 to let us know. They can return on the next session day and continue their treatment.

How long will my child remain in the program?

Depending on your child's need, the average length of stay in program is approximately 2-3 months or about 30-45 sessions.

Does everyone attend the same groups?

Yes, everyone enrolled in program will attend the groups together.

Is there individual treatment as well?

This is a structured intensive outpatient program. However, each of our clients receive truly individualized care. On a weekly basis, your child will receive 2 one-on-one counseling sessions, 1 individual family therapy session, 3-4 group therapy sessions, and 1 multi-family group.

How do families participate in the treatment?

Families are requite to participate in treatment by attending our weekly Family Night with their child on Monday evening from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, as well as one individual family therapy session a week.

What is the best way to treat a teen with conduct disorder?

A variety of treatment methods are available. Effective psychotherapies include parent management training, individual therapy, family therapy and social skills training. Through such programs, a teen can learn to identify problems, recognize causes, appreciate consequences, learn to talk about feelings, and consider alternative ways of handling difficult situations.

Stevie Kuhn

Program Director

Stevie a long time desert native brings several years of experience in the recovery community to the 417 Recovery team. Very passionate about helping others find a life path that helps them spiritually and emotionally, her leadership and experience help provide a safe place for families and teens to come together and grow.

Heather Hathaway

Clinical Director - Ph.D. LMFT

Heather is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy and holds a Ph.D. in psychotherapy. With her work focused on trauma-based therapy specifically with children and adolescents, Heather has many years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families. Helping families discover healthy communication skills is the motivation behind Heather's dedication for working with families.

Christopher Rios

Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

Chris is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who completed three Associates Degree in Social & Behavioral Studies, Humanities, Philosophy & Arts, and Communication, Media & Languages at Norco College. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, and a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Chris's focus and expertise in complex trauma, sexual health, identity, minority stress, people of oppressed groups, depression, and anxiety led to his passion for providing psychotherapy to various individuals, couples, and families.  

Kami Guevara

Marriage & Family Therapist Trainee

Kami is a Marriage & Family Therapist Trainee who holds several degrees in Psychology. She earned her Associates Degree in Psychology with a minor in Child Development from College of the Desert. In addition, she holds her Bachelors Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Research from California State University San Bernardino. Currently, Kami is working on her Masters Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy from University of Massachusetts. Kami's clinical experience includes helping adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, as well as recovery.

Chelsea Murphy

Hi, I’m Chelsea! Originally from the east coast, I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Central Florida and will soon be completing my masters in psychology with an emphasis on Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy in May of 2022. Before working in the mental health field, I spent a total of ten years working in either childcare or early education. I describe my style of therapy as holistic wellness, with elements of cognitive behavioral and person centered therapy. My goal is to develop a strong therapeutic alliance with my clients in order to provide a nonjudgmental and safe environment for  healing. Being a teen can be tough and it is my honor to be entrusted with helping young people navigate their mental health.

Medical Director

Dr. Alva’s expertise in adolescent, adult and geriatric psychiatry including dual diagnosis using the latest pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to treat mental health as well as the use of anti-craving interventions.

Nohemy Ramirez

Business Development / Client Relations

Nohemy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services at the University of Phoenix. With her degree she brings extensive knowledge and experience in the field of child development and adolescent growth. Working with children and youth has been a lifelong journey for Nohemy. As a Coachella Valley native, her desire to make an impact  brings her to 417 Recovery building a safe environment for teens and families implementing  activities while establishing one-on-one connections. She is very dedicated and passionate about working and helping teens and their families reach their goals.

Britney Putterman

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My name is Britney Putterman and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  I have a master's degree from Brandman University in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family therapy as well as Professional Clinical Counseling.  I strive to help individuals understand and identify roadblocks interfering with day to day functioning. I work with my clients on an individual basis, tailored to their needs in order to cope in a healthy manner. I understand that every client is different and requires a unique approach that suits them. I have 5 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents and families to address a multitude of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, relationships, and more. I utilize various therapeutic techniques from Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.  

Jessica Horning


Jessica Horning, PA-C is a nationally board-certified physician assistant at Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists. Jess graduated first from The Master’s University located in her hometown of Santa Clarita, California with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She later briefly relocated to Riverside to attend California Baptist University, acquiring a Master’s of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Jess is trained to diagnose, manage, and treat patients with various psychiatric conditions. Jess looks forward to every new patient she sees and views it as an opportunity to discover how she can best tailor each treatment plan to her individual patient’s needs and values. People often comment on Jess’s happy, bubbly personality which she views as an asset in her work.
We offer comprehensive, clinically-based treatment for adolescents and their families who are struggling with substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, as well as mental health issues.
